What it is

COLORBOND® Ultra steel is a prepainted steel roofing material engineered for higher corrosion resistance than standard COLORBOND® steel. It is specifically intended for severe marine environments and is a smart upgrade when standard painted steel is not enough.

Best for

Ideal for:

  • Coastal homes and sheds

  • Properties exposed to salt-laden air

  • Buildings closer to surf than standard COLORBOND® steel allows

  • Residential and commercial projects needing stronger corrosion resistance

Key features / benefits

  • Specifically designed for severe marine environments

  • Excellent corrosion resistance

  • Long-term durability

  • Available for roofing, walling, gutters, fascia, and downpipes

  • Backed by BlueScope warranties

Material composition

BlueScope states COLORBOND® Ultra steel uses a metallic coating mass of AM150 and is designed to combine corrosion resistance with the look and benefits of prepainted steel.

Estimated lifespan

Built for long-term coastal performance. Exact service life depends on site exposure, design, installation quality, and maintenance.

Maintenance needs

Low-maintenance, but coastal roofs still need common-sense care:

  • Keep the roof and gutters clear

  • Inspect after storms

  • Wash salt-exposed and unwashed areas where required

Visual or texture style

  • Classic painted steel look

  • Cleaner, more refined appearance than bare metallic finishes

  • Strong fit for contemporary coastal homes and premium sheds

Warranty options

COLORBOND® Ultra steel is backed by BlueScope warranties, subject to eligibility and application rules.

Installation time

Installation time depends on the chosen roof profile and site complexity more than the coating itself.

Environmental impact / recyclability

As a BlueScope steel product, it shares the recyclable steel base benefits of the broader coated-steel range.

Fire or weather ratings

Strong, durable, and suited to harsh Australian exterior conditions. Final compliance depends on the full roof system, profile, and project specification.

Available color or style options

BlueScope lists 7 core colours in a Classic finish for COLORBOND® Ultra steel: Surfmist®, Dune®, Shale Grey™, Windspray®, Wallaby®, Woodland Grey®, and Monument®. Other colours may be available on request.

Coastal suitability

This is the one to specify for severe marine roofing environments, typically 100–200 metres from breaking surf. If the project is even closer to breaking surf, BlueScope points to SUPERDURA® Stainless steel instead.
